We offer a wider range of services out of the Community House at 1a Waerenga Rd. Our services are designed to:
  • help and heal our most vulnerable in their time of need
  • provide information and practical services to support people with daily tasks
  • grow the capacity of individuals and families through skills and experiences
  • promote a sense of community, build relationships and celebrate our people and place

The Community House is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4pm. We'd love to meet you and will do our best to assist however we can. 

Cuppas and Company

One of the most important things we do is provide an open door and listening ear. Pop in during our opening hours for a hot drink and conversation. 

Counselling & Therapy

We have student and fully registered counsellors and therapists available to support people going through a tough time. Most of our counselling services are fully subsidised for residents of Te Kauwhata and Districts but we could appreciate a koha if you can afford it. Peer Support Groups

We offer a Cancer Support Group fortnightly for those affected by cancer. No matter what stage of your journey, or if you are walking alongside a loved one on their journey of cancer, you are welcome. 

We also offer a fortnightly Grieve and Grow group for those who have experienced the loss of a significant other. 

We also run regular 6 week new parent workshops throughout the year. 

Budgeting and Financial Mentoring

Law Clinic

We are excited to partner with Niemand Peebles Hoult to launch a community law clinic starting 20 July. Senior Solicitor Cindy will be onsite at the Community House fortnightly on a Thursday.  Please contact us to make 15 minute appointment.  (Conditions apply)

Pātaka Kai

The pātaka kai is a community pantry open to all. It is located on the exterior of our building on the corner of Wira St and Waerenga Rd. Leave what you can, take only what you need.

Food Bank

Our foodbank exists to support households in need. Circumstances can change quickly and if you find yourself in need please reach out. If you see friends or neighbours in need please let them know about the foodbank service and encourage them to contact us. 

Frozen Meals

Picture
Many people enjoy our affordable, nutritious frozen meals at just $12.00 each. Stock usually includes butter chicken, beef goulash, roast beef, roast lamb, roast chicken and roast pork. All served with seasonal vegetables. Please note we do not have eftpos. Cash or internet banking please.

Medical Transport

This service is available for locals who have hospital and some specialist appointments in Thames and Hamilton, who cannot drive themselves and have no friends or family in a position to transport them. Please phone us on 07 826 4303 at least 5 working days prior to your appointment to book your transport, as we do need time to organise one of our volunteer drivers. Please offer a koha to the driver. 

Social Transport

We are pleased to be working in partnership with Waikato Regional Council to pilot a social transport pilot service for residents of Te Kauwhata with limited means of transport ie. people without access to a car, a drivers license or fuel costs. This small group social transport will operate fortnightly to natural spaces and retail centres. Explore independently on arrival or enjoy the company of our hosts. Each destination will offer a place to purchase refreshments, for those who wish to.
Trips depart Te Kauwhata Community House at 9.30am and return by 2pm with a return trip fee of $15. Those who may need pick up from their homes (within 10km of the community house) may contact the programme co-ordinator Rowena Budd to discuss options – [email protected].
Passengers must be able to board and exit the van independently. Purchases at the destination are at the discretion of the passenger.
We have published our first five destinations commencing Wednesday 7th May. Further trips will follow.

Mobility Equipment

We hold a range of mobility equipment that can be loaned to community members for up to 2 weeks or by negotiation. Equipment includes wheelchairs, walkers, walking sticks, shower stools and more. 


Plunket

Leonie, our friendly Plunket Nurse holds a clinic on Tuesdays. Please phone Plunket to book an appointment.
While you are at the Community House, parents may also choose from a range of hand knitted baby garments made with love by local knitters. 

Children's Clothing Bank

Picture
We gratefully receive clean, good quality children's clothing that can be redistributed to those in need. We do not currently take adults clothing. You may donate these to St Andrew's Church or Aparangi House of Treasures.  


Job Board and CV Support

If you are looking for work, we post local vacancies on our job board at the Community House. We are also available to assist you with CV preparation, application and work readiness support. Pop in to check the job board but please ring ahead to make an appointment for CV preparation. 

Coffee & Computers

Picture
Come in on a Tuesday between 10 - 12 for a cuppa. Bring your tablet, phone or laptop. We can help with internet banking, email, printing, general questions, online safety and security, staying in touch with family, online shopping, MyMsd/RealMe, passport applications, online forms.

Information and Assistance

Our team also have a broad local knowledge and will do our best to provide any local information you require. 
We have pamphlets for many social services and will direct you to where you can find additional support. 
We are also available to assist you with printing, photocopying, scanning, laminating and basic typing. Charges may apply.


Hall, Signboard & Room Bookings

We manage the booking for the St John's Rooms and RSA Hall.
We manage bookings for the Village Signboard at the railway tracks coming in to town. 
​We also have small rooms available for hire within the Community House.
